In 2001, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) performed a telephone survey to try to determine more accurately just how much (or how little) Americans were exercising. In an attempt to be completely fair, they even counted such minor activities such as walking around the house, vacuuming the house, and playing video games. Even including these tasks, over half of all adults in the US are not reaching even minimum levels of exercise to stay healthy.
The officials say that this severe lack of exercise has caused a myriad of health issues including diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. It could quickly become the single most lethal danger to health.
In their research, the CDC found that those in Wyoming got the most exercise, while those in Kentucky were the least healthy.
There are many ways to add exercise into your life by taking small steps each day:
* Do stretching poses while you wait for the microwave to cook something
* If you play video games, look for the options that let you move around like the PS3 Move, XBox Kinect, or Nintendo Wii
* Take the stairs rather than the elevator
* Park at the far end of the parking lot at the store.
