“ Why can’t I use fabric on my cards?” and answered
“ I can! “
I had this adorable fabric designed by the very talented Phyllis Dobbs, and being the saver (read hoarder) that I am, I had saved every little piece. I needed a birthday card for a friend who is a cat lover, so this is what I came up with.

To make this card, you will need
White cardstock – 6” x 12”
Purple cardstock – 5 ½” square
Fabric- Meow, Meow collection from Quilting Treasurers
Scissors, ruler and pencil
Adhesive of choice - I used my Xyron machine
Computer and printer
6 ½” square envelope
1. Mark the white cardstock 5 ¾ “ from one short end and fold to form a card slightly off center.
2. Cut one of the kitty images from the fabric, including the border. Adhere this to a 5 ½ “ square of purple cardstock-or use any color in the image you choose
3. Adhere this to the card front
4. Adhere some of the all over print fabric to the inside of the card. Trim to fit.
5. Computer generate the words
“ Hope your Birthday is
“Purr fect “
and print on white cardstock. Trim to a 4” square. Adhere to the inside of the card.
6. Cut a 2” square of purple cardstock. Cut it diagonally to make 2 triangles. Adhere the triangles to opposite corners of your message.
7. Trace the envelope flap on the all over print fabric. Cut out and adhere inside the flap. Be sure to sign your card!
Since I had the supplies out, I decided to make a second card to have on hand for any occasion.

I cut the 3-heart motif from another piece of the Meow, Meow fabric and adhered it to a piece of purple cardstock. Then I cut 4 of the borders from the same fabric and adhered them horizontally, as I would ribbon. It needed a little zip, so I used a black pen to line both sides of the strips. I attached the heart motif piece to a black cardstock rectangle and trimmed it to a 1/8” border. The Chocolate Brads Pack from Hot Off the Press was lying on my crafting table from a previous project, and I thought the brads would pick up the dots from the fabric, so I tried both black and white. I decided I liked the white best. Pop dots under this added some dimension and hid the back of the brads. Next time I need a card, I can add whatever message I want to the inside, and I’m ready to go.
So, look around, and dig thru your “ stash” to see what you can come up with. Sometimes, just playing with whatever is lying in front of you can become one of your favorite projects!
