Berenstain Bears - and the Green-Eyed Monster

Stan and Jan Berenstain write The Berenstain Bears and the Green-Eyed Monster. The Berenstains tackle many issues and first experiences in a child’s life. In this picture book, the subjects are jealousy and envy.

The Berenstain Bears live in a tree house in Bear Country. It is Brother Bear’s birthday. Family and friends give him a birthday party. Brother Bear receives many presents. Mother and Papa Bear give him a brand new three-speed bicycle. Sister Bear becomes jealous and envies the bicycle. Mother Bear recognizes the look in her daughter’s eyes. She warns her of the Green-Eyed Monster.

It is bedtime, Sister Bear goes to sleep and dream. She dreams she is on the brand-new bicycle. Oh no, the little sister cannot ride the bike and crashes. Brother Bear’s bicycle is broken. Sister Bear awakens from the nightmare with a shout. She no longer envies the racing bicycle.

The next day, a family friend arrives with a brand-new car. Sister Bear sees the look of jealousy and envy on her Papa’s face. She warns him of the Green-Eyed Monster. The Papa agrees.
