I recently had the pleasure of meeting the tall, upbeat Kimberly Lacour. A wife and the mother of three, Kim has a sister – shout out to Lisa T. As an Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot, a company that specializes in boutique-style jewelry and other must have accessories ladies, Kim happens to be based in Atlanta. Wearing fabulous pieces that are eye-catching as well as sure conversation starters, she and travels throughout the southeast; in conversing with her about her ethnic contributions, she and I were able to bring you the interview below:
April: How did you get started with Stella & Dot?
Kim: I was searching for a business opportunity when my husband lost his job for the second time in two years. I started searching for a home based business and found Stella & Dot. I saw the jewelry online, loved it, submitted a request to learn more about the business and was contacted by the area director. I went to a team meeting and signed up to be a stylist about two weeks later!
April: Who told you about the company?
Kim: I found them myself, online.
April: What interested you in the product and the business end?
Kim: The jewelry was absolutely gorgeous, very unique, and l loved the flexibility aspect of the business. With three young boys, flexibility is key for me.
April: How long did it take you to build your business?
Kim: I'm still building and don't know if that ever ends!
April: Were you in sales, or had you ever sold products similar to these before?
Kim: No, this is my first attempt at direct sales. Luckily the company provides lots of training in the form of meetings, conferences, videos, and personal coaching.
April: What do you love about what you do?
Kim: Meeting fantastic women!
April: What has becoming a Stella & Dot's business owner done for you?
Kim: I have regained my sense of self. Most moms tend to get lost in the kids when they arrive and I was no different. Being a stylist has allowed me to "Get my groove back!"
April: You go lady! Now I will ask you to name some ways in which you as an Independent Stylist differ from others who also offer boutique-style jewelry and accessories.
Kim: Stella & Dot is different from its competitors in a number of ways. Our private trunk shows do not include a formal presentation where you're pressured to buy or join us. We do not carry inventory, orders are delivered directly to the customer. Our credit card fees are paid by the company and our jewelry is of the highest quality. The design team in New York is world class -- they make it a point to stay on trend and provide the customers with "Where did you get that?" pieces.
April: What advice would you offer other women who may like to follow in your footsteps?
Kim: Make sure that it is something that you really want to do. It is sales and you have to ask for the sale, or in our case, the trunk show.
April: Great advice. I like that when someone hosts one of your trunk shows they can receive more than two hundred dollars-worth of jewelry, and other pieces at half price. Hmmm...you’ve got me thinking... Kim, any parting words?
Kim: Thanks! I'm absolutely in love with the company.
