Ethnic Contribution, Maisha McGee-Childs

Today, Ethnic beauty family, I would like you to meet a woman who is a daughter, a sister, and a mother of two. Having attended the University of California at Berkley, she continued her graduate studies in Atlanta, Georgia at the renowned Emory University. Meet real estate investor and author Maisha McGee-Childs. Maisha enjoys fitness training as well as international travel. An avid reader, she focuses a great deal of her energy on the wellbeing of the total person -- the spiritual, mental and the physical. Thus she has written a book called The Soulfoul Slimdown. It is aiding many to reach their weight loss goals. In the book this author focuses on...forty f’n (fatten’n) reasons why you can lose not only physical, but mental and spiritual weight. What a treat! Do enjoy this brief interview with my friend...

April: How did you get started as an author?

Maisha: April Alisa Marquette -- you, encouraged me to publish my journey so that I might help others.

April: Was it always your dream to be published and an author?

Maisha: I never dreamed I would be a writer helping so many to achieve healthy weight loss.

April: What got you interested in writing this type of book?

Maisha: After successfully completing what I thought was an impossible Daniel Fast I wanted to inspire and motivate others towards healthy weight loss and a successful prayer life.

April: Do you feel this is a type of calling?

Maisha: I definitely feel it's a calling to not only help women in their struggle with health and wellness but to help fight against childhood obesity by educating parents about healthy food alternatives.

April: Had you ever written or interacted with people in this way before?

Maisha: What's funny is I had never interacted in this way before, although I interact with people all the time, but I made it my mission to share how God had blessed me through my personal fasting journal.

April: Readers would love some tidbits about your background, a little insight.

Maisha: Being from California, I'd never experienced the large food portions that we eat in the south, but my body soon began to show the effects which led me on a journey towards health and wellness. I am now the president of Victory Steps Christian Weight Loss Program.

April: What do you love about what you do?

Maisha: I love hearing people say how they look forward to the scriptures every morning. The most rewarding is hearing the weight loss stories and knowing I am helping to bring people closer to God.

April: How has becoming an author aided you to help/contribute to others?

Maisha: Knowing I can help fight against depression, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and help lower cholesterol lets me know I am making a difference in lives.

April: I'd like you to name some ways in which you are different from other authors with similar works?

Maisha: I am different from other authors because The Soulful Slimdown journals your success, keeping you on track to healthy weight loss and spiritual enlightenment with only 5 minutes of reading daily.

April: . What advice would you offer women who are interested in fasting/journaling?

Maisha: Make a commitment to yourself and God and believe you can do it. Use the journal to keep you accountable and use me as support!

April: How can people reach you?

Maisha: I am on Facebook, and at http: forward slash slash maishamcgeechilds dot tateauthor dot com!

Readers, friends and family, I thank the incredibly bubbly and bright Maisha Childs --who often reminds me of great champagne-- for joining us. For more on her and her wonderful book please visit the Ethnic Beauty Forum.
