You want to sync once a day to get your data up into the online system and see how you're doing. Also, any time you update your weight in the online system, or alter your goals, you'll want to sync the device. The device uses that data in order to know when to turn green. So it's important that the device always know about any updates in goals so it can show your progress for you accurately.
The Sync Manager also tells you how charged your device is. This is important - if your device runs out of battery power, it can't do you much good! Definitely charge it up daily. We've had our device run out of power several times and it gets quite frustrating. There's no way to manually enter data into the online SlimCoach system. It only uses what the device tells it.
As of March 2012 the only way to connect your SlimCoach to your computer is with the supplied micro-USB cable. They claim they'll have a wireless device available soon, but so far it hasn't materialized.
This requires an internet connection to work. The sync manager is communicating between the SlimCoach device and the website. So you can't sync your device if your are not internet-connected. That is, you can't have a laptop with you in the gym and sync after each workout stage, to see how you did on it. It will only work if that laptop has access to the internet.

Here is an example of a case where the device is actively loading data into the system and at the same time it says the device is all right to disconnect. Any time you see any sign of loading activity, DO NOT disconnect the device. You will cause trouble if you do. Instead, make sure you wait until all loading activities are complete before you disconnect the SlimCoach unit from the USB cable.
With all the software installed, it's time to look at the Biggest Loser SlimCoach Plastic Unit itself. Just how does this thing work?
