Beginning Meditation on Kindness

Here is a guided meditation about acting on kindness:

Choose a quiet and private place for your meditation. If you’re sitting on a cushion on the floor, fold your legs in and sit up straight. If you’re sitting on a chair plant the soles of your feet firmly on the floor.

Fold your hands in your lap or place them palms up or palms down on your thighs. Close your eyes.

Take a deep breath in and slowly release it. Now take a breath in on two counts, and let it out on two counts, breathe in on two counts, breathe out on two counts. Keep up this even rhythmic pattern throughout your meditation.

Turn your attention to thoughts of kindness. Visualize yourself walking along a country road. Up ahead you see a small child lost and run to give him comfort. The feeling of satisfaction in helping is kindness in action.

Now come back to your regular consciousness in your meditation place. Resolve to act with kindness at every opportunity.

To finish your meditation, take a deep breath in and slowly release it. Open your eyes. Write out any insights in your meditation journal that have come to you. Stretch out and go on with your day while being kind.

I invite you to join me in a world-wide cyber meditation every day of the year. Click on this link to read about it.
