Hidden Valley Pomegranate Vinaigrette

The Hidden Valley Pomegranate Vinaigrette offers a flavorful salad dressing with 60 calories and 3g of sugar per serving.

I am a strong proponent of eating salads daily, and most of us like salad dressings with our salad. But choosing certain salad dressings can get so much sugar into your system that it's as if you ate a pile of Twinkies.

This pomegranate vinaigrette offers a nice alternative. A standard serving of salad dressing here only has 60 calories, 3g carbs, 0g cholesterol, and 6g of fat. There is no protein, and of other nutritional counts there is only 4% of your vitamin A.

The main ingredients here are water, canola oil, red wine vinegar, pomegranate juice, and dried cranberries. So that's good to know.

I have several pomegranate dressings that I switch between, and I do have to say that for me this is a bit too vinegary, where other ones have a gentler flavor. But that is going to be a very personal decision. Some people love a vinegary salad dressing. Others don't. So where you fall on this spectrum will depend on your own taste buds.

The salad has a few "solid" parts - the dried cranberry pieces - but is mostly a nicely oily liquid so it coats the salad parts well. That's important to me. If a salad dressing is too watery it just drops off the salad and doesn't impart any flavor.

There are all sorts of good health benefits to red wine vinegar, pomegranates, and cranberries. So having those in the salad is a nice thing.

The 60 calories and 3g of sugar are both far lower than many other salad dressings on the market. So you do well by choosing this vs choosing quite a number of alternatives on the shelf. That being said, my personal favorite is the Maple Grove Raspberry Vinaigrette which is only 5 calories and 1g of carbs. So you can get even lower if you wish.

Really though, in the end, the only real down side would be if you personally don't happen to connect with the flavor. And that is something you should try out for yourself!
