Hanukkah Books for your Preschooler

Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish celebration that starts December 8, 2012. Here are some fantastic books to teach your child about this holiday:

Biscuit's Hanukkah by Alyssa Satin Capucilli is a preschool friendly tale
Biscuit the puppy learns a little bit about celebrating Hanukkah while he helps his little girl make a Menorah for her friends. Biscuit and his little girl then visit their friends and enjoy watching the candles burn.

Grandma's Latkes by Malka Drucker is a traditional story of the history of Hanukkah. As the main character, Molly, helps her grandmother make the Hanukkah latkes, Grandma explains how the holiday came to be. The warm atmosphere and easy conversational style of this book help keep the story interesting and engaging.

Light the Candles by Joan Holub is an interactive "lift-the-flap" book that has a flap for each night of Hanukkah. Children in this story are opening the door to relatives with presents, getting a gimmel while playing with a dreidel, and festively enjoying the chocolate golden coins.

Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins by Eric Kimmel is a whimsical story that is both original and fun. This book has received a Caldecott Honor for it's amazing illustrations.

The Magic Dreidels by Eric A. Kimmel is a remake of an old folk tale. This is a short tale, but one that is filled with beutiful illustrations.

When Mindy Saved Hanukkah by Eric A. Kimmel is an old-fashioned tale with a story any generation will love.

Chanukah Lights Everywhere by Michael J. Rosen is another eight night countdown book, based on a boy who counts lights for the number of candles his family lights. The illustrations are straightforward and traditional.

Sammy Spider's First Hanukkah by Sylvia A. Rouss tells the tale of a young spider named Sammy who watches as a family celebrates Hanukkah, lighting candles and gives their little boy a different colored dreidel each night.

The Flying Latke by Arthur Yorinks is a unique and odd story, but has an element of humor that can't be missed! It is based on an arguing family who accidentally turns an ordinary latke into a UFO circling the earth!
Here are these amazing and festive stories:
