Why New Years Resolutions Don't Work

One difficult concept for people to wrap their mind around is that New Years Resolutions Don't Work. True, the resolutions don't work unless they discover the key to successfully reaching goals or resolutions. Let's take a look at the facts. People develop personal goals to accomplish during the New Year. They are determined to reach these new goals or resolutions. January sets wheels in motion for dramatic change.

Favorite New Years Resolutions
Commonly, resolutions involve positive change, life improvement, or self esteem boost. We all recognize the usual suspects. Just about everyone starts the New Year with goals to lose weight, get healthy, improve eating habits, exercise more, save money, make more money, start a new career, be kinder, or start a new hobby. The resolutions are actually a type of behavior modification. People try to alter or modify certain behavior patterns.

Why New Years Resolutions Don't Work
New Years Resolutions involve developing a new attitude. The new attitude might involve a very major step. For example, perhaps you set a goal to lose 30 pounds this year and get healthier. Lose weight and you lose your excuse for avoiding sports, exercising, getting active. Instead, some stubborn individuals sabotage their plans by procrastinating and keeping their old attitude.

Or perhaps an individual decides that it is time to end a toxic relationship, but find that they rely on that individual for emotional and financial support. Thus, making it almost impossible to end the relationship.

The fact is that people are basically stubborn. People do not like to alter their behavior patterns. People prefer sticking to what they know. Frequently, developing a brand new attitude upsets an individuals present situation. Stepping outside of the comfort zone is a bit frightening. Consequently, many people subconsciously make choices that ultimately sabotage their New Years Resolutions.

Making New Years Resolutions Work
Accept that new attitude with joy. It is also important to train your subconscious mind to accept the new attitude. Commence with little steps and let them lead the way. Establish a few positive affirmations that are repeated daily. Or write down the new resolutions or goals in a journal to review. Leave sticky notes on your mirror, desk, and all through the house concerning the goals or resolutions. This process firmly implants the resolutions in the subconscious mind and prepares it to embrace the new attitude and reaching those new goals.
