Hawthorn tree berries are used in folk lore medicine to treat many health ailments. Herbalist discovered that the hawthorn plants leaves and berries have certain qualities that are good for the heart. For example, berry extracts improve circulation and reduce high blood pressure. This is due to the fact that hawthorn berries are known to dilate the blood vessels. Studies also suggest that a hawthorn astringent will soothe a sore throat.

The hops plant climbs along fences and walkways. The cone shaped flowers are very distinctive. Hops is a main ingredient used to brew beer in this country and around the world. Even the ancients discovered the magical beer brewing qualities associated with hops. A small pillow filled with dried hops and placed under the head while relaxing on the bed is thought to cure restlessness, sleeplessness, and insomnia. A small cloth bag filled with hops, dosed with rubbing alcohol, and placed on the skin treats boils and mild pain.

The horehound is a bitter and very aromatic plant that is commonly found all over Europe and other countries. Fortunately, horehound grows wild across North America. It is the leaves and the top of the plant that are commonly used in herbal preparations. Horehound is thought to treat colds, flu, and chest congestion. Over the years herbalist blended the leaves to make potent cough drops, lozenges, and cough syrup.

Horsetail is a weed like plant that grows wild across the United States. The plant exhibits very strong and natural diuretic properties and is a treatment for kidney disorders.

Hyssop was a popular ceremonial plant in cleansing rituals performed by ancients. Hyssop is a popular garden shrub. It is also found growing in the wild. Drink a cup of hyssop tea and you will quickly discover true mint flavor. In addition, the flavorful tea has a very positive affect on the digestive system. In fact, many drink hyssop tea to soothe their digestive system and eliminate gas. Hyssop is also a soothing treatment for coughs, colds, and the flu.
