Silhouette Studio Designer Ed Software How-Tos

At first glance, the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software can be a bit confusing. But you will soon find that it is a very easy software to use. Below are a few basic tips for using your SilhouetteR.

How To Set Blade and Paper Media Cut Settings in Silhouette

  1. Open the Silhouette Studio software. From the Silhouette Studio screen, click Design. Turn on your printer and the Silhouette machine.

  2. Open your SVG or .studio file into Silhouette or draw your design.

  3. Click the (Blade) Cut Settings icon to open the Silhouette Cut Settings pane.

As you can see in the Cut Conditions section, you have the option to set your cut settings By Layer or By Color. Depending on your choice, you will see either a list of individual layers or individual line colors in your document. Click on the Tab of your choice to get the corresponding list. On the right of each layer or line color is the corresponding Material. You can set a different material for each layer or line color in the list. You will find a list of Material Types directly under the Cut Conditions section.

  4. By Color Option: When you choose to set a material for a line color, click a line color in the Color list. Then click on your choice of material from the Material Type section. You will see your choice reflected in the Material listed to the right of the selected line color.

By Layer Option: When you choose to set a material for a layer, you will see the name of the .studio document and a list of each layer in your document. As in the step above, you can set a different Material Type for the document and for each layer.

  5. As you click on each layer or line color in the Cut Conditions section, its corresponding Material will be selected also. Change the material if necessary. You will see the corresponding Speed, Thickness, Blade and other settings for that material choice in the Editing section below the Material Type section.

  6. Set the blade in your Silhouette machine to the suggested Blade setting.
