SnackWell's CarbWell Fudge Striped Shortbread

Nabisco is definitely on the low carb wagon. Their fudge striped shortbread cookies are buttery and smooth, with just the right amount of chocolate.

On nutrition, you get 2 cookies in a serving. That gives you 4g saturated fat, 110 calories, and 9g net carbs. There are 6g sugar alcohols in the form of maltitol - be cautious if you're sensitive to sugar alcohols. The main ingredient is enriched flour.

We've had a number of people try these cookies and they are universally enjoyed. The bottom of the cookie is a thin layer of fudge, and there are thin fudge stripes across the cookie. That chocolate is very good tasting, as is the base cookie. The merging of the two flavors is quite nice.

Yes, there are only 2 cookies in a serving, and 6 servings per box. As with other low carb treats, this might mean that someone in 'avid gobbling mode' would go through an entire box. This would be bad in any situation, and could be really bad with the sugar alcohols in the box. You really need to take out those 2 cookies, put away the rest of the box, and savor them slowly. Life is about enjoying the food you eat - not about gobbling it down without thinking and then handling the consequences.

Like with all processed cookies and candies, you need to keep this as an occasional treat. You shouldn't be eating these daily as a 'normal part of your meal'. Food should be about nutrients and healthy, needed components going into your system to fuel your body. The more you stuff your stomach with 'unnecessary' processed items, the less room and desire you'll have to eat the things you should be eating, full of vitamins, minerals, and body-maintaining components.

So eat the cookies as a treat, but use them wisely! The best low carb eating style is to eat as much fresh, natural food as possible. The more you maintain your sweet tooth, the more likely you are to cheat if you end up in a situation where a low carb alternative is not available.

Well recommended for those occasional treats, in moderation.
