Green Giant Cauliflower and Cheese Sauce is a microwaveable dish which is quick to make and rather tasty. It is great as an easy side dish for your main course, or for a main dish if you eat the whole thing.
The box is meant to be 3 servings of a half cup each. The instructions are fairly straightforward. Cut a slit in the plastic bag. Microwave for 4 minutes. Dump into a bowl. That's it! The cauliflower is tender, the cheese is creamy.
If you think you don't like cauliflower - a fantastic vegetable - then give this a try. You get a nice texture, the creaminess of the cheese, and solid nutrition.
For each serving you get 25% of your daily vitamin C! You also get small amounts of calcium, Vitamin A and iron. You get no cholesterol, 2g protein, 6g of carbs which includes 1g of fiber. You get only 2.5g of fat including 1g of saturated fat. There is 410mg of salt in here.
This is perfect for nuking when you're grilling a steak or chicken. The meat is done in minutes, the cauliflower is done in minutes, and you have a nice meal.
On the other hand, I like to eat this as a dish. If my recalcitrant boyfriend has decided to head off to darts instead of cooking me a gourmet meal (the heathen) then I can pop this in the microwave, pour a glass of wine, and in a few minutes I have a delicious meal ready to go. Yes, it means I multiply the nutrition values by 3 - meaning I get 75% of my Vitamin C for the day! I only get 15g of carbs for the entire meal even eating the entire package, plus 3g of fiber. It's really tasty, too.
Are there downsides? I am getting really spoiled with the fantastic steamer bags that other companies have. To have to slice open hot plastic packages full of steam now seems a bit old fashioned. It should self vent, and it should be easier to open. You have to be careful not to steam yourself, and somehow balance the hot bag while using a fork to scoop out the last bits of cheese.
Still, minor complaints for a dish that is tasty and pops from freezer to plate in only 4 minutes. Well recommended!
