Having Fun at Crops

How can we have more fun at a crop? First let’s remember what a crop is. A crop can be defined as the space and time for scrapbooking. The “crop” is THE place to be for scrapbookers. But where and how does the fun start?

For the first clue, check out the flyer or invitation to the event. There should be a lot of information on there. There may be a theme for the crop – that can be a lot of fun! Look at the colors on the invite. Or if there is a photo or clip art. And definitely look for something that says there is a theme, like maybe it will say wear something that is blue or bring this or that.

Watch for more information as the day comes closer. Some crop organizers will email a list of things to bring or an agenda for the day. They may send a welcome letter or confirmation that there will be a table for the scrapbooker. But most of the time, there may be opportunities to add enjoyment, so make sure to scan for fun.

When scrapbookers arrive at the crop there is most likely a gift and/or package of information at their table. Make sure to take a peek at all of this stuff. There may be special deals for the day or some sort of listing of items available for sale. It may include chocolates, candies or a sample of products from one of the vendors who have brought their products for sale.

Another fun aspect at a crop that may be offered is the make & take. This is typically a small project, maybe a card or a piece that can be used on a layout. The vendors offer these projects so that croppers can try their product or learn a new technique. The time it takes to do these projects can offer the cropper a short break from what they are doing. It also offers them a new technique or two that can be used in their own projects.

Lastly, games and prizes are quite typical at crops. It may be a ticket game where the croppers meet some criteria and they receive tickets for participating. Those tickets may be used to win prizes. The organizers may set up bingo or any number of different kinds of games to be played. Usually, the focus is on either participation or scrapbooking, so they should be fun for everyone at the crop.

Some people say that the games or themes are too much or not fun for them and that all they want to do is scrap. Some think that the sales and gifts are not necessary. Scrapbooking is of course, the goal of the event. But think for a minute before passing on everything. It is fun to share food, play a game or participate in the theme. There may be prizes for participating, but even if there isn’t, it’s still fun to try and join in. All of the sales and gifts, food, games, etc. are meant for the scrapbooker’s enjoyment, so enjoy! The crop time is meant to be a time for fun & relaxation for everyone.
