If I Could A Mother's Promise - Book Review

Celebrate Motherís Day with Susan Milordís If I Could: A Motherís Promise. She depicts beautifully the love between a mother and offspring. The picture book has twenty-two pages. Susan Milord writes the Mother's Day book for children between four and eight-years-old.

If I Could: A Motherís Promise opens with a mother raccoon and her offspring. The pair spends a day together exploring the area around their home. Using rhyming verse, mother raccoon describes the wonderful things she would do if she could for her baby. She would rouse the sun, paint the flowers, swim the deep and more to make the baby happy. At bedtime, mother raccoon promises her child, ďIf I could love you more, I would.Ē

Susan Milord writes short and simple sentences. The poetry is repetitive and fun. Her rhymes are easy to learn. Soon children will know the words by heart. They will love to say the lines along with the reader. The text is large, so young eyes can easily focus on the words. Babies and toddlers will enjoy the poetry just as the older kids.

Christopher Denise illustrates the children book of poetry. He captures the love between mother and child in acrylic and charcoal. The raccoonsí eyes are so expressive. Mother raccoonís ample arms and lap are so cozy and comforting. A reader will want to lay their head on her shoulder for a cuddle. View If I Could: A Motherís Promiseís book cover. Also, Christopher Denise draws a cute yellow rabbit. Make a game of finding it on the pages

If I Could: A Motherís Promise is a great picture book for readers looking for a Motherís Day book. However, Susan Milordís children book will become a favorite year-round bedtime book. Mother raccoonís words and person are as warm as a down comforter on a cold winter night.

Not only does If I Could: A Motherís Promise make a fine Motherís Day Book, it is great for Grandparentís Day. Substitute the word grandmother(Nana) in place of the word mother. The picture book will work with any female title. Use the correct title to fit the situation. The love is the same. For more Motherís Day or Grandparentís Day books click here.
