Mathew Price writes Room for One More. The painter, Ian P Benfold Haywood, does the animal book’s beautiful illustrations. The picture book is for young people between the ages two and six-years-old.

A family is returning home from a shopping trip in town when the story begins. Along the way, as they walk, the family encounters different animals: a frog, kitten, mouse, canary and more. They even see an elephant during their stroll. The compassionate family rescues the stray animals and offers them a home. Thus, the book’s title Room for One More.

Young children learn compassion for animals, small and large. A trait, kids need to respect and treat animals well. Hopefully, this learned trait will remain with them throughout their lifetime. Read the book when teaching the social skills: compassion and empathy for others. Expand the new skills to include their fellow man.

Mathew Price and Ian P. Benfold Haywood’s children book works well as a bedtime story and as a classroom circle book. Also, use the animal book as a memory and pattern game. Room for One More is an interactive picture book. Kids can lift-the-flaps to see each animal in their individual container. They will associate each container with a particular animal using their memory.

Toddlers and preschool and elementary students like shouting which animal is inside the container before lifting the flap. Also, they learn to associate the written animal name to the animal. Older children learn to spell the animal names.

Learning is fun when playing a game. Room for One More is great as a game and picture book. Kids will love hearing the story and learning the animal names.
