Retired trial lawyer Matt Royal is living a pretty laid-back lifestyle as a beach bum on Longboat Key, Florida, and has no current plans to change his circumstances. However, when his best friend Laurence Wyatt is murdered, Matt decides to investigate on his own.
He knows local police chief Bill Lester, a personal friend and fishing buddy, will do his best, but Matt wants to seek his own answers. He and Wyatt had both served as Green Berets and had formed an especially tight bond. Now, Matt was out for revenge.
During the investigation of the death of the gentle professor, robbery is ruled out as Wyatt’s money clip and wallet were still on his dresser. However, his laptop is missing. A week after Wyatt’s death, his ex-wife intercepts a package sent to him. She forwards the information contained on a CD to Matt. The CD consists of a list of names from a project Wyatt was working on. As Matt works through the list of names, he finds himself in increasing danger.
Matt soon finds that another professor working on the same subject as Wyatt has also been murdered. That revelation sends Matt to Germany he finds an element of remorseless criminals and trained killers.
The deeper Matt gets into the investigation, the more danger he finds himself in as he now becomes the target. Matt calls in his friends Jock Algren and Logan Hamilton as backup, and the hunt is on. Although Wyatt's Revenge is primarily set in Florida, key scenes also occur in Germany.
Wyatt’s Revenge, written by H. Terrell Griffin, is the fourth novel featuring Matt Royal and his friends. This super charged creative thriller moves quickly through increasingly deeper levels of intrigue and violence. Griffin’s characters are realistic and well-developed.
The reader will not feel he or she should suspend belief throughout the taut novel. Written in first-person narrative and moving at breakneck speed adds to the realism of the story as Matt and company traverse the continents.
This book is highly recommended for its fast pace and tight-knit characters. Fans of Travis McGee will enjoy Matt Royal, even though he does move at a bit faster pace than McGee. Although it is mainly a man's novel, women who enjoy the old-school mystery novels will also enjoy this series.
