Anger Management - Handling Adversity

When confronted with adversity in other people we can retain our peacefulness by assuming a neutral position.

Adversity in people or a situation is 'cross traffic'. Allowing their opposing energy to go by while remaining in neutral keeps us out of an 'accident' of conflict.

Self-centered attitudes tempt us to pull out of neutral into conflict because we feel our point of view is being jeopardized. But within the negative or opposing side of peace there is no resolve that serves the highest good. Decisions out of strife or anger fail as they are not born of balance and harmony - nature's way to maintain universal order.

Guided Meditation

Sit comfortably, eyes closed, hands in lap, and begin even breathing to establish body- mind harmony. Counts 1, 2 breathe in; counts 3, 4 breathe out; counts 1, 2 breathe in and continue this pattern (without actually counting) throughout the meditation.

Visualize yourself rolling a bowling ball down the lane. It strikes the pins and then the automatic machine returns your ball to you along the ramp.

Using that example, all thoughts are like a ball we roll down the ramp - they travel and strike something - the action. Then the ball being returned is like someone's reaction. With anger - if we use it, it returns to us again. But, if we send out thoughts of kindness and act in harmony, that is the reaction we receive.

Thinking about this example, take a deep breath and resolve to plan actions, from this time forward, with the thought of bringing a harmonious result.
