Nail Infection Problems

Nail infections are quite common. The two most common types of nail infections are fungal infection and bacterial infection. Let's take a closer look at this problem.

Fungal Nail Infections
Take a long look at your nails. Do the nails appear healthy and strong or are they chipped and cracked? Do you notice any swelling or redness? Are the nails separating from the nail bed? The problem might not be cosmetic. Perhaps, the reason your nails are in less than perfect condition is because of a nail infection. A nail infection is nothing to laugh at and could be a very uncomfortable problem that is hard to treat. People pick up a nail infection and might not know exactly how they contracted the nail infection or how to treat the condition. Dermatologist report that Fungus is the most common cause of nail infections. Fungus nail infections are often inherited, according to dermatologist. Some fungal infections are easily treated with topical anti-fungal creams, lotions, or gels while other infections that are more serious should definitely be treated with oral medications.

Bacterial Nail Infections
So, what are the obvious signs that you might indeed have a bacterial nail infection? Redness and swelling on the areas surrounding the nails points to a bacterial infection. Bacterial infections are caused by injury to the skin, frequent exposure to water or harsh chemicals.
