I love chocolate covered raisins. While these sugar free raisins do have 6g per serving, that is FAR lower than the sugary version. Plus, they taste fantastic!
I suppose I consider that, in the grand scheme of things, eating raisins is far healthier than eating most junk food desserts like chocolate cake, candy, etc. Raisins are dried grapes, after all, and grapes and wine are very healthy for you. In essence you're eating raisins with a tasty, sugar free chocolatey coating on them.
How do they taste? The raisins taste raisiny of course, nice and plump and juicy. The outer chocolate coating is just a little thick for my taste. I love chocolate a great deal! But when I eat a chocolate covered raisin, I want the raisin to be the main flavor - not the chocolate as a ball around a drop of fruit :) Still, it's only slightly too chocolatey, and the chocolate flavor is very rich and creamy and full. No off tastes at all.
In a large 75g pack (about the size of a tall paperback book) there are 3 servings - so they aren't expecting you to eat only a thimbleful. For each serving you get zero cholesterol. There are 15 total carbs, of which 9g are dietary fibers. So you get a good healthy dose of fiber by eating this chocolatey snack! That leaves only 6g as sugars, mostly from those raisins. Raisins are naturally sweet :)
There's 1.6g of protein, 10% of your daily iron and 2% calcium. Not enough to really be proud of, but still, every little bit helps. It's better to eat a snack with nutrition than one with none.
I haven't seen Gol D lite in any stores, but I ordered mine from the Gol-D-Lite.com website and that was super easy, and they showed up quickly with a cold pack to keep them from melting. I ordered a few other things from them which I'm reviewing separately. So I definitely suggest placing an order of your own to give these a try.
I'd like to give a special thanks to my newsletter reader who let me know about these tasty chocolate covered raisins. I don't think I'd have found out about Gol D lite without that message. If any of the rest of you have delicious sugar-free items you are enjoying, please let me know!
