Marilyn Monroe.

Marilyn Monroe (aka Norma Jeane) defined glamour in Hollywood.

Her iconic figure which still impacts lives today stems from her voluptuous beauty, curves and pout that made her more than just a 50's sex goddess. She dominated the movies and is arguably the most famous woman of the 20th century.

What many people don't know about her is that she spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages until 1937 when she moved in with a family friend. Her life is more complicated than we can make out; and her quotes and words that today are so famous can sometimes explain how her upbringing was so hard. She has many words of wisdom which can apply to many aspects of our lives so I thought I would pick out a few of my favourites.

Marilyn Monroe spoke many words which described her as wanting to be her own person as well as the famous woman she was pictured as. She believed that her career wasn't everything and although her passion for acting did not fade, it did not control her life either.

"A career is wonderful, but you can't curl up with it on a cold night."

"Fame will go by and, so long, I've had you, fame. If it goes by, I've always known it was fickle. So at least it's something I experience, but that's not where I live."

"First, I'm trying to prove to myself that I'm a person. Then maybe I'll convince myself that I'm an actress."

Marilyn's morals were never short of care, when she proclaimed that she would always be by people's sides as long as she believed in them. She found that faith and kept the people close to her that she loved.

"I've never dropped anyone I believed in."

Another quality of her was that she was famous for her independence. This was important as she had grown up not having a family that she could constantly confide in. Her independence and sex appeal were just a few of the things that brought her such an iconic role, still in our modern society today. She is seen as an inspiration to women.

"When it comes down to it, I let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I'm already better than them."

"If I'd observed all the rules I'd never have got anywhere."

Although Marilyn Monroe was most famous for being in the limelight, the most fascinating thing about her is that wasn't what she wanted to be famous for:

"I don't want to make money. I just want to be wonderful."
