The Neti Pot is a centuries old way to treat allergies and nasal congestion.
After writing an article about Spring allergies and various natural treatments I decided that the Neti Pot was worth an up close look. As many might know Spring is the time of year when many people are stricken with severe allergy problems. They suffer with sneezing, itchy eyes, and nasal problems, mostly due to the pollens in the air.
The Neti Pot looks like a small tea pot. That is where the resemblance ends. Actually, the Neti Pot is a centuries old way to treat sinus problems and nasal congestion. In fact, the Neti pot is used to clear out the sinus and nasal cavities. And was first used by yoga enthusiast who first designed the Neti pot to clear out their nasal passages. Something very important to those who practice yoga. The Neti Pot was introduced recently to those outside the yoga community and is experiencing increased popularity. Many health practitioners now recommend the Neti Pot to patients with nasal allergies.
How to Use the Neti Pot
In order to use the Neti Pot start by adding 16 ounces warm water and about 1 teaspoon of salt to the Neti Pot. Lean the head back slightly and insert the Neti Pot spout into one nostril. Now, slowly pour the saline solution into the nose. The fluid should pass through the nasal cavities and drain out the opposite nostril. Repeat in the other nostril. Use the Neti Pot two or three times weekly to keep nasal passages clear and improve breathing.
Neti Pot Safety
Many health practitioners state that the Neti Pot is safe for most individuals. Although a small percentage reported experiencing a few minor side effects which included irritation of the nasal passages along with burning sensation in the nose. Health practitioners report that reducing the amount of salt in the water usually clears up the problem. Others found that using the Neti pot less often resolved their problems with irritation to the nose.
One final note, remember to consult your doctor before trying any type of alternative medicine program.
