The list of upcoming DVDs for late summer/fall 2006 includes some true classics and we’re looking forward to them all. For example, the first season of “Amazing Stories” included some fantastic and touching half-hour tales, like “The Mission” and “Dorothy and Ben.” We can’t wait! And then there’s the 2.5 season of SciFi Channel’s “Battlestar Galactica.” We’ve also added a few editor’s picks--DVDs you might have missed, but are worth your notice.

Dark Shadows The Revival: The Complete Series
If you missed the 1991 series, which lasted for just 12 episodes (compared to the original, which surpassed the 200 episode mark), pick this little gem up. Unlike the original, the new “Dark Shadows” aired in the evenings (Fridays, to be exact), introducing a new generation to Barnabas Collins the vampire. The casting was good, the romance was ethereal, the atmosphere was persuasively gothic and the all-encompassing themes—life, death, love—were engagingly explored through supernatural phenomena from ghosts to witches.
The Best of She-Ra, Princess of Power
I know, you’re thinking, wasn’t that the silly kiddie cartoon that was the female equivalent of He-Man? Yes. But don’t write this series off if you haven’t seen it. For one thing, the DVD promises great quality plus a documentary, remastered graphics and lots of extras, plus the pilot episode and five of the “best” other episodes—as voted on via the Internet. For another, the female action hero wasn’t all that prevalent in the ‘80s, and those of us who needed one got hooked on She-Ra immediately. Follow the adventures of He-Man’s twin sister and friends and don’t forget the catchphrase—“For the honor of Greyskull!” Or, if you prefer, wait for the entire run of the series to appear on DVD, which should happen in the near future.
