If you're looking for a healthy snack that is tasty and super easy, I highly recommend this spinach cheese & artichoke dip. It microwaves in about 3 minutes, has almost no sugar, has 2g of protein, and 10% of your vitamin A too!
If you've never eaten at TGI Fridays, this is a great dip that is served warm. You dip celery, carrot sticks, veggie chips, Triscuits, or whatever else you want into it. It is a nice creamy blend of spinach, a thick cheese sauce and bits of artichoke. The flavor is mild, with the cheese flavor more than anything else coming through.
Cooking this is super easy. Pop it into the microwave. Stop halfway through to stir it up a bit, then finish. Take off the lid and start dipping!
A single package says it serves 8. I'm sure we all know that we tend to eat more than the "serving size" with these sorts of things. However, that's not really a bad thing here! Eat too much spinach? :) There is less than 1g net carbs per serving. So even if you ate the entire package yourself, that's less than 8g carbs total.
You get about 1g fiber per serving, which is great. You also get 2g protein!! Plus the spinach gives you 10% of your vitamin A per serving. Again, if you are an eat-the-whole-box person, that is 80% of your vitamin A in a very natural, healthy way!
Even the sodium, which normally is very high in packaged foods, is only at 5%. So that is great as well.
If you eat it with something healthy like celery than it gets even better, because you're getting tasty flavors with more nutrients and fiber. Just stay away from something like potato chips or corn chips :)
Are there down sides to this? Well, you could argue that it's cheaper to make your own spinach, cheese and artichoke dip. That could be true - but most people I know just would never take the time to do that. This is a quick-fix snack for when you're busy and want something healthy. You can recycle the cardboard box and the plastic inner container too. It's way healthier than many of the other snack options out there.
