The color black is usually associated with mystery, death, evil, fear, formality, power, and elegance. You have everything from mysterious black holes to elegant black tie affairs.
In many places, black is also associated with grief, as well as death. Think of the black wreath on the door when someone passes away. The mystery of black also comes into play here as death is a mystery as well. What really happens when people die is a question on most everyone’s mind.
If you like animals, it is interesting to note that black animals are sometimes not allowed to be adopted at shelters during Halloween time. Due to the association of bad things with the color black in some people’s minds, a lot of black animals at shelters do not even stand a chance at getting adopted.
Black, as a wearable color, is slimming in many cases. Now, keep in mind, if you were to wear all black and stand up next to a white wall, it will showcase that same silhouette. Black also contrasts well with bright colors. Think of the Halloween combination of black and orange. Now pair it with red and you get a more sophisticated visual. Yellow and black is very vivid and more for the adventurous in you.
The late Johnny Cash made wearing the color black his personal trademark. Elvira, best known at Halloween, has also made black a familiar sight. Black is also associated with business suits. Black tie affairs bring out the most formal in most anyone. Most people associated with the clergy wear black as well. Is it power, elegance or mystery that makes people wear black?
