I received this book through points earned taking survey’s on line. I felt it was a freebie and enjoyed reading this book. The book Golf is not a Game of Perfect by Dr. Bob Rotella and describes how the one aspect of playing golf is the mental game. Dr. Rotella thinks that technique of being a golfer is only 10% of the golf game. That once you have acquired the techniques of the swing the mental side is 90% of making yourself a successful golfer. Dr. Rotella teaches many Pro golfers how to make themselves mentally alert while playing the tour.
There is a forward in this book by Tom Kite as he explains how Dr. Rotella helped him to think positive and have a dream of what he wants to accomplish with golf. Once Tom used his dream of winning tournaments and at least a major he put this into practice and soon was successful. Tom was on the small side as a young man and was from Austin, Texas where names like Ben Crenshaw seemed to be getting ahead faster. He used the help of Dr. Rotello and put his dream into practice and let himself enjoy the journey.
Dr, Bob Rotella talks about his background as a caddie at his hometown Country Club and loved the game of golf. He was very sports oriented and began to follow the teachings of his coaches about positive thinking. He became good in several sports but the coaching aspect of the game interested him. This led him to a sport scholarship and on to Psychology used to motivate athletes. He talks about many well known coaches such as Knute Rockne, John Wooden plus all his former coaches who taught their players to believe in themselves before you can become a good athlete.
Dr. Rotella became a director of sports psychology for twenty years at the University of Virginia and now is consultant to the world’s leading golfers of the PGA, the LPGA and the Senior LPGA. He has contributed to the sports magazine Golf Digest and lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with his wife Darlene and daughter Casey. This book was collaborated with Bob Cullen a journalist and novelist and he has listened to Dr. Rotella suggestions and lowered his handicap from 21 to 5. Believing in yourself with the courage to put it all into practice will improve your golf and your life.
This book Golf is not a Game of Perfect tells of many interesting things that happened to many popular sports figures. He has worked with such golfers as Nick Price, Pat Bradley, Brad Faxon, Davis Love III plus many others. I was taken with the inserts of several sayings that will help a person think in a different way. Not being negative or let little mistakes get you down we are not perfect and have to learn to live with our self.
I will include a few; hopefully they can help everybody improve their out look on life.

Free will is a golfer’s greatest source of strength and power.
A golfer must train herself in physical technique then learn to trust what she learned.
A golfer must learn to enjoy the process of striving to improve the short game.
Golf is a game played by human beings. Therefore, it is a game of mistakes. Successful golfers know how to respond to mistakes.
There are several of these quotes interspersed through out this book. Since I love this type of sayings as it helps put the emphasis where it belongs in so few words. Keeping a positive attitude on all things is surely to help keep your life in balance. Carrying around a negative attitude only will give you heart burn and makes your golfing partners hate to have you around. Mistakes happen in life we have to learn how to deal with them and have fun while playing this great game called golf.
