Giving Thanks and Expressing Gratitude

We all like to feel special and feel that the things we do for each other are appreciated. Itís also a wonderful to let someone know just how much they mean to you and to tell them specifically what your appreciate about them.

Create a family Gratitude Journal:
A simple journal can become a treasured family heirloom. If everyone is together for the holidays, pass the journal around and let them each write down the things they are thankful for. If they happen to be artistically inclined, they could also include drawings. If you family is spread out and unable to get together, consider mailing the journal to each person and having them send it forward when they are finished.

Send letter or post card:
In this age of information and instant communication, we seldom receive hand written letters. Taking the time to put pen to paper and express your thoughts can be an uplifting surprise for someone you care about.

Write a Thankful blog post:
Let that special someone know how much they have impacted your life and publicly thank them for everything they have done.

Include notes in your place cards:
A short note in each personís place card at the dinner table can be a wonderful treat as well as a great way to start the conversations rolling.

Create a paper chain of Blessings:
Start with rectangular strips of paper that you and your guests can write their blessings on. Take the first piece of paper and glue, staple or tape the ends together to make a circle. Slide the next piece of paper through the center of the circle and connect its ends like the first one. Continue connecting the paper circle until everyoneís blessings have been joined together. Hang your chain where you can see it often.

Donít just save these ideas for Thanksgiving or the holiday season. Throughout the year, taking the time to tell someone you care about them and appreciate everything that they do can help lift your spirits as well as theirs. Youíll also find more things to be thankful for in your life when youíre looking for ways to express gratitude for all that you share with others.
