It is common for many to regard essential oils as pleasant scents to use like a perfume on the body or around their home. Essential oils are much more than pleasant oils. They are powerful and potent remedies for many ailments. And aromatherapy would not exist without essential oils. Aromatherapy is not a weird mystical science. Aromatherapy is a real part of our daily lives. It is in the air we breathe. For example, the scent of a fresh rose garden or the smell of cinnamon bread baking in the oven. These are all examples of aromatherapy at work on our senses.

Modern aromatherapist believe that all scents derived from botanicals contain special healing power. These potent essential oils are obtained or extracted from plant roots, bark, leaves, and flowers. And most essential oils remain strong and fragrant for up to two years if they are kept bottled tightly.

Massage is the most popular aromatherapy method. This typically involves rubbing the potent oils into the skin. The massage method is thought to improve blood circulation in the area leading to reduction in pain and blood pressure. Here is how to use this method:

Inhaling the essential oil works on the lymphatic system which controls our emotions and sense of well being. Here are quick ways to experience aromatherapy effects using the inhaling method.

  • Buy aromatherapy candles in lavender or citrus
  • Spray the room with orange or vanilla aromatherapy spray
  • Dab a few drops of sandalwood or jasmine on wrist

    Lavender thought to lift one's mood, stimulates the circulatory system and help heal the body.
