The Secret of Grim Hill

Linda DeMeulemeesterís The Secret of Grim Hill, Book #1 takes place during October. Red, orange and yellow leaves are crisp and cover the ground. The fall air cools the warm flesh of those outdoors. Yet, the strange events happening in town turn Catís flesh cooler. In fact, Cat is shivering.

Cat Peters and Snookie, her younger sister, are children of a divorce. They live with their mother in a new town. Mom works as a secretary at the really posh private school, Grimoire High. The school sits atop a hill known as Grim Hill.

Nothing goes right for Cat at her new school, Darkmont High. She wishes to escape and attend Grimoire High. The financially-strapped student has only one chance to attend. Cat has to win a soccer scholarship. She makes the team! Fortune changes for the good once she is in the soccer playoffs. Life is beautiful until the disappearance of Snookie.

Linda DeMeulemeesterís The Secret of Grim Hill, Book 1 is a dark fantasy book with magical undertones. The tween reader constantly wonders what is happening. Who is the goth young woman? Where is Snookie? Cat tries to answer these questions and many others. Jasper Chung, her neighbor, helps her discover the truth.

The story revolves around the period before Halloween. Halloween parties and costumes enhance the spooky story. Cat and Jasper must solve the mystery soon or all is lost. Linda DeMeulemeester writes a suspenseful tween book for children eight-years-old and older.

Nothing untoward is in the tween book unless one does not care for Halloween and the customs linked to it. The young people have a pre-Halloween party, but without drinking, drugs and sex. Just clean fun with music, dancing and bobbing for apples.

Readers who enjoy playing soccer will love The Secret of Grim Hill too. Cat has tryouts and soccer games.

The Secret of Grim Hill, Book 1 is for the reader who has graduated from the R. L Stine and Goosebumps series. It is a type of pre-Steven King novel for tween readers. Grim Hill should not give the young reader nightmares. It is spooky fun. Read during the Halloween season or anytime throughout the year. A word of warning, be careful for what you wish!
