I really like to get some newsletters. And there are some that are O.K. and then there are those others that seem more like advertising e-mails than they seem like "news" letters. I used to write a weekly advertising newspaper a long time ago about the Pikes Peak (Colorado) region called The Peak Magazine. It was distributed free to tourists who were visiting the area and it had coupons for free stuff and cents off coupons for eating places. And a weekly calendar. But it was really about advertising. I sold ads to cover the cost and to keep it free and ads took up over 80% of the paper.
The Bella Online Wine newsletter is a little different. There is news in it - like a link to the most recent article I have written, that has not been published yet but is on the web page. I am not really sure if I can offer coupons in the newsletter or how that would work. So that will be a work in progress for me to investigate if it is legal for me to do. There will be other news too and a calendar or when I plan to do interviews with wine makers and wineries.
Since blogs have come on the web scene, newsletters are not as popular as they used to be. However, real e-mail newsletters are an insight into the editor's mind as long as there is news in the letter. And not an advertising e-mail.
As I mentioned, a lot of e-mail newsletters I used to get, were nothing but daily or weekly advertising pitches to buy this or that and I quickly get off those mailing lists. I still get two or three of these newsletters because there is still one newsletter out of three that has some good content and it is worth getting for that.
I hope that you will sign up for the Bella Online Wine newsletter. I can guarantee you that there will not be advertising all over the place asking you to click here or there to get the latest set of wine glasses from someplace. However, I will be advertising in the Spring and Summer asking if you want to donate to the Race for the Cure and sponsoring me this year on September 7th. It will be a gentle nudge for a good cause that I have decided to raise awareness and some money again this year. I raised a few bucks last year and I want to see if I can beat my record this fall.
Do me a favor and ask your friends to sign up for the newsletter too.
Until next time, let me know what is on your mind, and how you are doing.
