Rough, dry, chapped lips are painful and certainly not very attractive. Protecting your lips is very important for looks and health reasons. And a very important part of total health, mind, and yes...body care. Did you know that those affected with dry chapped lips are more prone to bacterial infections and cold sores? Plus, a multitude of other medical conditions. Here are a few ways to keep lips soft, moist, and supple through any season or weather.
Dry Chapped Lip Cures
Avoid Caffeine. Are you a heavy coffee drinker? Many of us can't start a proper day without a hot cup of coffee. Those addicted to coffee drink several cups throughout the day. Coffee is a quick pick me up drink for many. And did you know that coffee is also one factor that contributes to dry chapped lips? That said, one should try to reduce their coffee (caffeine) consumption if dry lips is a real problem.
Use Lip Balms. Lip balms are a good quick cure for dry lips. The Benetint SPF 15 brand is a favorite lip balm. These products are made of wax and seal in the lips moisture. Carry one or two in your tote. Place a few in your desk at work or home office. Use when the need arises. Your lips will thank you!
Vaseline. Many smart cost conscious women swear by Vaseline. It is the one product they use on their lips to cure dryness. This old favorite is actually quite good for sealing in lip moisture. The best way to receive full benefits is to slather it on your lips just before bedtime. In the morning lips will be soft and moist.
Avoid Ultra Violet Rays. Sun rays tend to dry and damage sensitive lips. Use a lip balm with a Sun Protective Factor (SPF) of at least 15 when out in the sun to protect those sensitive lips.
Spicy Foods. Watch out for the foods and beverages consumed. Spicy foods and alcoholic beverages irritate the sensitive lips which leads to dry chapped lips. Reduce consuming those spicy foods and alcohol beverages to heal chapped lips.
Protect Sensitive Lips. Wearing lipstick actually protects sensitive lips. Wear a moisturizing lipstick with an SPF of 15 or more to protect the lips from the suns ultra violet rays.
Hidden Allergies. Are you allergic to certain chemicals in your toothpaste? Check the ingredients. And another common reason people suffer chapped lips is an undiagnosed allergy to ingredients in their mouthwash. Never buy toothpaste or mouthwash packaged or manufactured in a foreign country. They are not regulated as closely as products in this country. And might contain unknown harmful chemicals.
Try to use the lip care tips here daily to cure dry chapped lip problems and you should see immediate improvement.
