Make Candy Wrappers Using PowerPoint

Fall has descended upon us and with it comes the holiday season starting with Halloween through to New Years. You can use the MS Office products to create distinctive and thoughtful gifts and favors. One idea is to make your own candy wrappers for holiday party favors or for Halloween ghost and goblins visiting your door, or delight your kids by making them to leave for santa's visit. You can use these for other occasions too, like wedding showers, baby showers, birthday parties or any other party idea you might be planning.

Here are the instructions to make candy wrappers using PowerPoint. The candy wrappers will fit a 1.5oz candy bar such as a Hershey bar. While these instructions are for PowerPoint, you could adapt them for MS Publisher.

The instructions can also be adaptable to other candy bar size dimensions simply by measuring the wrapper size and adjusting the paper size accordingly.

What you will need:
• Paper Cutter
• Candy Bars
• PowerPoint Software
• Printer

Take some time to think about the design elements you want to include on your wrapper. What colors would you like to use? Pick out some graphics. For a Halloween wrapper, you might want to use a witch, pumpkin, trick or treat bag, ghost or goblin or other Halloween symbol. For a Christmas wrapper, you might want to use a santa, a Christmas tree, ornament, garland, or other Christmas symbols. Look thought clip art sites and those provided within the MS Office product. Decide what you want your wrapper to say. Here are a couple of sample designs.

Here are the steps you need to take to create your own design:
• Launch PowerPoint
• Select a blank layout
• Select File | Page Setup from the main menu
• Select a Portrait layout
• Set the width to 5.25"
• Set the height to 5.75"
• Select the rectangle tool from the draw toolbar
• Draw a rectangle starting at 1/8th inch from the left edge and 1/8th from the top edge to about 1/8th inch from the right edge and about ¼ inch in height. This is to establish the glue area for your wrapper.
• Type glue area in the rectangle and center it.
• Select a background fill or a graphic to fill in the background. If you use a graphic to fill in the background, you may need to send it to the back in to bring the Glue Area forward.
• Bring your graphic elements onto the PowerPoint canvas and place them where you want them on your wrapper.
• Use WordArt or a Text Box to create your wording graphic. Place it on the wrapper layout.
• Continue to adjust your layout until you are satisfied with your results.
• Print a sample and try it out on your candy bar. Adjust your layout, if necessary.
