A Golfing Day Trip

Three of my friends Peggy Ruch, Bev Jones, Sara Pettijohn have been talking for the past month about taking a golfing day trip to a nearby golf course. We were thinking of Star Ranch which is just a half hour drive from Salado they are located between Round Rock and Pflugerville, Texas. We finally decided that this past Monday would be a good day as our golf course was closed for a full tournament. All twenty seven holes would be filled with guest and our club even asked members if they could use our golf carts for this tournament. This made it a good day to take a golfing day trip.

I made tee times at Star Ranch for 10:30 a.m. and we thought that 9:15 would be a good time to take off for Star Ranch. It was a beautiful day, partly cloudy with no wind to speak of and it was going to be a fun day with friends on a well manicured golf course. They have a nice club house and pro shop and we were welcomed as we checked in and paid our green fees. For $38.00 we were also told we could have a breakfast and a lunch following our round. What a deal this is and for a Monday morning we were told the course was full of golfers and to be on time for our tee off.

We knew we had time so I picked up a sweet roll as because of other distraction at home I did not have time for breakfast. This was a nice extra service to offer golfers. We took time to putt on their immaculate putting green and check the surrounding of their club house. Everything was trim and tidy and we were greeted by the tee time director who told us which group we would follow. I remarked to him about having Jacque Ward to our Member/Guest Tournament the week before. He said he knew her well as she works hard for Star Ranch.

We were soon ready to tee off as we were to start on #10 as they were working the group backwards for that day. Since I had only played the course once, Peggy had been there several times and could remember the golf holes. Bev said she had been here several years ago when it first opened and remarked how well developed it has become.

For some reason my golf game had decided to return and made pars on the first few holes. This was great until we reach the fourth hole which you had to fly the green over a deep ravine where the bank was lined with rocks. Triple bogie here but my game returned and finished in good style. On a tricky par three hole we all made the green and ended up with a birdie and three pars. This picture shows how we all shot with Bev getting the birdie with a near Hole-in-One.

Donít know what I shot as we forgot to pick up the score card when we returned the golf cart. I thought about it while we were eating our sandwich after the game but it wasnít that important. Jacque Ward came out to greet us when we were finishing our last hole. It was a great day as we enjoyed the golf course even if it was fairly slow since the course was full of golfers. We ended the day with a sandwich in their club house after the round, a fun day.

We returned to Salado at 4:30 p.m. making a good day with friends. That evening I noticed sunburn aches and slathered down with Aloe-vera lotion I never thought of putting on sun screen while playing as I had plenty in my golf bag. It was a pleasant partly cloudy day and it never crossed my mind as I heard from others that they also did not realize we were getting sunburn. In Texas it is a must to carry your sun screen in early May the sun has power even through clouds.
