Dear Philippa, in this amusing book, gets a godsister instead of a godmother. The fairy is her own age. Godsister, Daisy, wants nothing to do with Philippa except to grant the three wishes and return home as quickly as possible. The two females rub each other wrong. Kids learn the reasons for the dislike for each other. This is because Liz Keeler writes from each girl’s point-of-view in alternating chapters. As Philippa Fisher's Fairy Godsister progresses, children comprehend Philippa and Daisy’s new empathy for each other and view their growth as loving individuals.

Philippa Fisher learns to be careful of what she wishes and that she was better off before the wish business began. She and her godsister, Daisy, learn to invest in themselves and others. These are two important lessons for the tween reader to learn.

Liz Kessler writes a very satisfying and funny fantasy novel. One funny scene happens when Philippa’s father comes to school wearing pajamas. His heart is in the right place, but kids understand his apparel is a total embarrassment. The juvenile reader learns that parents will do embarrassing things, but if their hearts are in the right place go with the flow. Lovers of fairy tale story books will enjoy Philippa Fisher’s Fairy Godsister. The Philippa Fisher series continues in Philippa Fisher and the Dream-Maker’s Daughter.
