Cancer and Angiogenesis

Cancer rates around the world continue to rise. In the year 2000 there were approximately 10 million new cases of cancer worldwide. Based on current projections, by the year 2020 this rate will increase to 15 million new cases per year. This is an epidemic that is out of control and we seem powerless in stopping the spread of cancer.

Many cancers are linked to environmental conditions, however, there are many cancers linked to unhealthy habits such as smoking and a poor diet. The western diet is one of the unhealthiest diets in the world and promotes obesity, diabetes and cancer. It is estimated 40 percent of cancers can be prevented.

New research released by the Angiogenesis Foundation may hold the key to preventing and controlling the spread of cancer.

What is Angiogenesis?

Angiogenesis is a vital process within the body in which new blood vessels develop. This is a crucial natural process in the body used for reproduction and healing. When an imbalance occurs in this process, new blood vessels will not develop properly. This imbalance is a significant factor in the development of many diseases including cancer.

What is the Angiogenesis Foundation?

The Angiogenesis Foundation was established in 1994 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Their primary goal was to develop a method of fighting diseases through Angiogenesis. In addition, their research indicates healthy Angiogenesis is adversely affect by unhealthy eating and the lack of exercise.

Foods that Starve Cancer

Groundbreaking research by the Angiogenesis Foundation has developed a list of five foods proven to prevent cancer and prevent the cancer from continuing to grow. Essentially, these foods change your internal environment to a hostile environment for cancer growth. These foods are healthy and should be eaten on a regular basis.

Serving = 1/2 cup

We have all learned that tomatoes contain lycopene, which helps prevent cancer. It has been determined that cooking the tomatoes changes the chemical structure allowing more of the lycopene to be used by your body. You should eat at least three servings of cooked tomatoes per week.

Chinese cabbage or Bok Choy contains cancer-fighting brassinin. To maximize the benefits include it in your diet a minimum of three times per week. Cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and broccoli also contain brassinin.

Artichokes contain three different molecules, which fight cancer. Eat three servings per week or eat a fourth of a cup each day for maximum benefits.

We are all concerned with the amount of mercury that is in fish. However, Flounder is low in mercury and contains omega-3. Eat this fish at least once a week.

Finally yet importantly, eat at least a cup each day of strawberries. The antioxidants in strawberries are excellent cancer fighters.

Most cancer research concludes a healthy diet and exercise are crucial weapons against the battle of cancer. The World Health Organization mentions in its world cancer report many cancers are preventable by a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Add these five foods to your diet to minimize your risk.
