When you think of a peach or nectarine, a big round pumpkin, or a ripe and juicy cantaloupe, orange is the color that usually springs to the surface. Oranges which are the most familiar of the citrus fruits, really show the meaning of the color orange. Zesty, bright and full of flavor, the color orange can spice up your world like nothing else.
Orange can also represent enthusiasm, creativity, determination, and stimulation of mental activity. Orange brings together the best of energy driven red and the best of joyous yellow. Warmth and heat are sensations given off by the color orange. Sun bathing is a very popular pastime during summer months and on vacations.
You would not wear orange into the company boardroom by any means; unless you wanted to make sure your job was indeed on the line. Orange is a color to be worn when you want to be seen. Life preservers are usually orange in case they need to be seen against a big body of water. Hunters wear orange vests and hats to make themselves visible to other hunters.
Orange and black have been associated with Halloween for some time. Black is for the end, or death, of the harvest time and the orange represents the fall harvest. That is one explanation that comes up the most in books and online searches. Grinning Jack O’Lanterns and designer carved pumpkins are familiar sights on porches and lit up in windows.
Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie seem to be joined hand in hand. Decorations for that holiday usually involve orange in some way with leaves, pumpkins, squash and other gourds. Christmas is known for its use of orange as well. The orange and clove pomanders that graced bowls in hallways always brought a familiar home-y scent to any festivity.
