April 1, 1919 -
Eamonn de Valera elected first president of Dáil Éireann


April 3, 1918 - Michael Collins is arrested by the brits and is taken to Co. Sligo.


April 6, 1954 - The british Flags and Emblems Act legislates against interference with the Union Jack, effectively prohibiting display of the Irish tricolor in the six counties of occupied Ireland.

April 23, 1014 ­The Battle of Clontarfoccurred on Good Friday. Defeat of the Vikings in Ireland.


April 24, 1916 - TheEaster Rising begins Monday when 2000 rebels led by Padraig Pearse seize central Dublin buildings.
