Your Man and His Hair

Your Man and His Hair
Taking a look at the men in our lives, I see that many of them need our style conscious input into their hair. It is time for us to share our artistic eye with the men we love. Do you see your man as being a bit rebellious and creative, sort of the
Tom Cruise
or

Eddie Cahill's
longer hair look? Or is he the successful businessman with a
Mel Gibson conservative cut? Or is he somewhere in between, conservative but a little on the uncontrolled side in a look that we see on
Michael Douglas.

Before getting too involved in creating your favorite movie star image for your man, take into account bone structure and body type, and look at the effect the new haircut will have on his overall appearance.
Take an appraising look at the face you love. Is it wide or narrow, long or short, round or angular?

A broad or round shaped face will only look broader and rounder if his hair is left too full at the sides and over his ears. This man will usually look better with the sides clipped close or combed flat. A side or off center part will distract the eye and cause the face to appear slimmer. Some length in back is ok only if it is not full. Hair that is always full is better cut short. Let's not leave this man before we look more closely at the back of his head. Many men's cuts are squared off at the neckline. This is done because straight lines are considered masculine. However if the neck is wide, the lines of the neckline can be angled in slightly to make the neck appear narrower while still keeping the masculine appearance.

Does this guy of yours have a thin or narrow face? He should refrain from getting the latest cut-it-all-off clipper cut worn well by
Jay Hernandez.
This also goes for a flat top or a high and tight. Any cut that is very close on the sides and especially if it has any height on top will accentuate the narrowness of his face.

For the high forehead, take a look at

George Clooney's
style.
Even short haircuts can be allowed to have some fullness at the sides without looking out of balance. The aim here is to leave enough length so that the hair does not lay flat. If he has fine straight hair, he can learn to blow it dry for some fullness. This photograph of

Michael Douglas
shows this type of style. Other choices are worn by
Kip Pardue and Seann William Scott.
From the back, we will want to see a blocked effect with some hair filling in behind the ears.

There are many considerations in choosing a man's hairstyle. These suggestions are only a few of the basics. With attention to detail, our men will have star quality, not only in our hearts, but in the eyes of the world as well.
