Alien Flux Free Demo

Looking for a mindless arcade game which involves saving pink fluffies from evil bubbles? Give Alien Flux a try!

It's a 2D space shooter, sort of like Asteroids, where you fly your little space ship around equipped only with shields (the C key) and occasional 'full screen' bombs (the space bar). You use your right mouse to fire, your left mouse to steer.

The graphics are nice if a bit simple - you have a quietly textured background against which your spaceship slides around in its quest to save the "highly intelligent" pink fluffies. I have to say they aren't ACTING intelligent. They don't bother to move away from the enemies, and instead of grouping together so I can easily protect them, they scatter themselve all over the map. Plus they're always in the way when I'm trying to get a clear firing lane at the targets.

I used to LOVE a similar game on the Mac (whose name escapes me now, this was 10+ years ago) where you had a little spaceship flying around killing enemies. In fact it was a screensaver if I recall where you only fired forward. The one really annoying thing I found about Alien Flux is that moving the firing target makes the entire screen slide around and even with my "game recommended" 2 button optical mouse this was really jerky and annoying. I wish they had just let the game fire "forward" like just about every space game I've played, so that movement was smooth and solely based on your engine thrust.

But since the demo is free, give it a try for yourself and see how you like it!
