Some More Garden Catalogs with Cacti and Succulents

Here are some additional 2007 garden catalogs that feature cacti and succulent seeds or plants.

Jung Seed

Celebrating its hundredth year in business, Jung offers seeds of portulaca, and stonecrop. In addition for the first time in 2007 they are listing Black Jack sedum. These are sold as bareroot plants. So do order early since hot weather isn’t as favorably for shipping bareroot. This plant is recommended for zones three through nine. It is noted for the very dark foliage. Opening during the late summer, the blooms are vivid pink.

Jung also sells a number of other hardy stonecrop plants, including ones that are suitable for ground covers. Among the stonecrops is one new one for 2007. This is Abbeydore stonecrop, which is also sold bareroot. Recommended for zones three through nine, this upright, space saving plant has bright pink blooms in large clusters.

In addition, Jung also sells several stonecrops in pots, including Angelina sedum, Citrus Twist stonecrop, Purple Emperor stonecrop, Dragon’s blood, gold moss stonecrop, and Red Cauli stonecrop.

Jung also has two varieties of hardy yucca that are sold bareroot. These include Adam’s needle and Color Guard, a variegated variety.


Thompson and Morgan

This company has been in business since 1855. Their 2007 catalog offers seeds for a number of tender and hardy cacti and succulents, including the aloe, which is used as a houseplant, and houseleeks, which are hardy perennials. Depending on the species and your climate, some of these may be hardy outdoors.

Among the seeds of hardy cacti that they offer is Opuntia humifusa and yucca, which is recommended for zone seven southward.

They also have seed mix for a number of Mammillaria cacti, which are tender in many areas of the country, and a mix of hedgehog cacti, which are also hardy only in warmer regions.

For houseplants, you won’t go wrong with the Thompson and Morgan Special Mixed cacti seeds.

In addition, they have seeds for various kinds of hardy spurges, including Amjilassa Euporbia. Very floriferous, this variety has very large, blazing yellow flower bracts. These open in clusters that are over a foot in diameter.

Thompson and Morgan also has seed of Summer Icicle spurge, which a low growing cultivar of an annual spurge.

Galaxy Mixed Lewisia is a colorful seed mix from Thompson and Morgan. Very showy, the blooms in various colors open in rounded clusters. Many of the ones in this mix have bicolored blooms with a lighter shade along the edges of the petals.

For annual succulents, Thompson and Morgan has two kinds of annual ice plants. These include Sparkles Mixed and Apricot Tutu Mesembryanthemum.

In addition, they have seed for various kinds of hardy stonecrops, such as a Rock Garden Mixed sedum.
