Fall Romance Reading
This week, I have two new books to share with you and a little news, so let´s get started. First up this week is Sherry Lewis´s Echo in Time (Jove Time Passages). Sam Evans has dropped into sherriff Taylor O´Brien´s peaceful little town from the past, or so he says. Though she finds it hard to believe his tale, it´s harder yet to keep him out of trouble for things he doesn´t seem to understand. And then there´s the fact that he´s gorgeous, which Taylor hasn´t missed. But in the midst of her re-election campaign, things could get sticky. If you´re a regular time-travel reader, you´ll remember Sam from Ms. Lewis´s last novel, but if not, don´t worry--you won´t need a refresher to enjoy this book. Though a little slow in spots, this book is nonetheless enjoyable, particularly for time travel fans. I´m giving it three of Cupid´s five arrows.
The second book I read this week is Heaven Sent, the first of Rachel Wilson´s new "Love Letters" books (Jove Historical). Postal delivery woman Callida Prophet feels badly for Becky Lockhart, the sweet child who´s been writing letters to her dead mother. So badly, that she´s written return letters. And when Becky´s father, Aubrey decides his daughter needs a nanny, Callie has to apply for the position, thinking that the child needs someone to love her. But things aren´t as black and white as she´d thought. Aubrey is a complicated man, still mourning the loss of his wife. Too bad Callie´s falling for him. The underlying theme in Ms. Wilson´s new series, as you may have guessed from the title, is love letters. In this case, however, the love letters in question are between Aubrey and his late wife, and they cause a serious rift between Callie and Aubrey. While there are other of Ms. Wilson´s, aka Alice Duncan, books that I have really enjoyed, I had a truly hard time liking Aubrey Lockhart in this one. He was downright mean to Callie at times, though honestly, Callie wasn´t on her best behavior either. This one´s earned only two arrows.
Coming up in the next two weeks, I have Susan Krinard´s upcoming release, "Secret of the Wolf," to share with you. I also will have an interview with Ms. Krinard, which I´m very excited about. And after that, more reviews of soon-to-be-released romances, and a few surprises for you.
In the meantime, I hope you´ll check out some of the discussions in our forum. There are lots, and I´m sure you´ll find something to interest you. Also, I want to let all of you know that until our new Bella chat rooms are ready to go, I´ve opened my personal forum up for the Bella Romance Books chat, at our regular time, Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. EST.
Until next week, happy reading!
