Fresh Drama for Summer
Guest Author - Lizzie Flynn

Good drama in the summertime is hard to find. Traditionally, the summer months are filled with reruns on the Big Three networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC). The past few years, though, the Big Three have been filling their slots with reality based programming, leaving some unfulfilled. Enter cable networks. They’ve discovered the best time to introduce new shows and to premier old one is during the summer season. This summer is no different. Here’s a small rundown of some great dramas that could very well find a permanent place on your TiVo schedule.

USA Network

USA Network has already rolled out some of their summer lineup. Airing Sundays are “Law & Order Criminal Intent” at 9PM ET and “In Plain Site” airing at 10PM ET. Both of these shows have already premiered.

Starting July 10, “Burn Notice” begins its second season in the Thursday 10PM ET slot. Then Friday July 18, “Monk” and “Psych” return with back-to-back premiers starting with “Monk” at 9PM ET.

TNT

TNT is gearing up to begin with their summer fare. Monday July 14, “The Closer” and “Saving Grace” return starting at 9PM ET.

AMC

Golden-globe winning “Mad Men” comes back for a second season on AMC on Sunday July 27 at 10PM ET.

Lifetime

Lifetime’s hit “Army Wives” comes back for another season, which started June 8. It airs on Sundays at 10PM ET.

Showtime

Showtime comes on strong with half hour dramas. First “Weeds” airs at 10PM ET followed by “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” on Mondays at 10:30PM ET.

Though there doesn’t seem to be a lot of dramas from which to choose this summer season, there’s plenty to keep you busy between vacation getaways and trips to the zoo. There’s just enough to keep the drama buff fulfilled and coming back for more. Keep your TiVo ready and don't miss an episode.
