Drawing Cartoons Online for Beginners

A great style for clipart that suits many different genres is the cartoon style. Cartoons are easily 'read' and adds interest to your message or project.

The best way to be original is to draw your own. Some people struggle with drawing and the point here is NOT to give up. Start simple and easy.

A fine way to encourage your cartoon drawing skills is to take free lessons online. This way you can work at your own pace. Don't worry about 'copying' at this stage, you will be learning about the relationship of shapes to each other and your own style will develop over time.

When you have done a lesson, re-do it and add your own elements and changes, for example a different type of facial expression or hairstyle. A pair of sunglasses or different footwear.

Sometimes you need inspiration when drawing, but your confidence may be a bit on the low side.

A site I highly recommend is Jeff Scarterfield's 'How to Draw Cartoons Online'. The site format is easy to navigate and the lessons are organized in a step-by-step method. There is plenty of inspiration here for those wanting to start out drawing.

Many free lessons, you can choose from such subjects as Heroes, Animals and Things. Some subjects are divided further into lessons for the beginner, intermediate and advanced.

There is a visitor's gallery, a place where you can ask questions and a coloring pages section. You can sign up for the newsletter, which is very informative.
