I remember seeing the sign for America's Stonehenge when I was a little girl and asked my parents if I could go someday. They never did take me so I finally went with my daughter about twenty-five years later.

Aside from the megalithic structures, there are a few other interesting things. There are two sandbox activities that kids can do. In one sandbox they can stamp different animal footprints into the sand and the other has several tools where the kids can pretend to be archaeologists and dig up and brush things off.

Elizabeth and I set off on our Stonehenge adventure. First we stopped to pat the moose on the way to the ruins... On the walk to the ruins there is a birch bark wigwam, but I couldn't convince Elizabeth to go inside so I could take a picture.

Here is Elizabeth inside The Chamber in the Pattee area of the site. You can see that the ceiling isn't very high.

Inside the oracle chamber looking out. Inside this chamber is a speaking tube that when spoken into it appears that the sacrificial table (outside) is speaking. There is also a Secret Bed that someone can crawl into and be completely hidden and watch almost everything that is going on around the sacrificial table.

Here is the Sacrificial Table. You didn't think I'd leave that out did you? You can see the carved channel quite nicely with the fallen pine needles in it. This stone is estimated to weigh about 4.5 tons.

There are a number of stones that align with various astronomical events - you know solstices and equinoxes, that sort of thing. This is the alignment map on the viewing platform.

The admission price to get into America's Stonehenge is $8.50 for adults, $5.50 for kids ages 6 to 12, and $7.50 for seniors. After touring the place I felt the prices should have been a bit lower, however the admission does go to the upkeep and research. No pets are allowed into the park.
