Audrey Hepburn Movies on TCM in July

Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels, Belgium on May 4, 1929. She was the daughter of a wealthy English banker and a Dutch Baroness. While vacationing with her mother in Arnheim, Holland Hitler’s army took over the town. She varily survived Nazi occupation and suffered depression and malnutrition during the occupation. Hepburn won a scholarship to a London ballet school and went into modeling, where she was discovered and started her film career.
Audrey Hepburn starred in approximately 30 movies since her debut in the 1948 Dutch movie “Nederlands in 7 Lessen”. Her first movie in the USA was “Monte Carlo Baby in 1951. Hepburn’s big break was in Roman Holiday (1953) when she played Princess Ann, in which she won her first Oscar for Best Actress. The big screen loved Hepburn, she was nominated for Oscars four more times for Sabrina (1954), The Nun’s Story(1959), Breakfast at Tiffany’s(1961) and Wait Until Dark(1967). In 1988 she put most of her efforts into UNICEF as an ambassador until her death of colon cancer on January 20, 1993.
