Purpose is the motivating factor that gets you up in the morning. American Heritage Dictionary defines purpose as: The object toward which one strives or for which something exists - an aim or a goal. Have you defined your motivating purpose?

Do you know what motivates you to succeed and thrive? Let’s look at PURPOSE as comprising of seven parts:

Pursuit
A major component of purpose is striving toward something that will satisfy your emotional, spiritual and/or physical need to accomplish a meaningful goal. To have a purpose in life means that day-to-day you are motivated to go forward in positive powerful ways. "Many people have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose." Helen Keller


Unique
Your purpose is something that is uniquely yours. It's this uniqueness that makes it a powerful motivator. Although your purpose may be part of a larger plan, which is also being pursued by others, it is still unique, important and distinctive to you. "A wonderful realization will be the day you realize that you are unique in all the world. You are a special combination for a purpose - and don't let them tell you otherwise, even if they tell you that purpose is an illusion." Leo Buscaglia


Results
To have a purpose means knowing what you want and why you want to accomplish it. A true purpose has the power to give you clear direction. It allows you to aim at a goal with the determination to achieve your desired results. "The greatest lesson of life is that you are responsible for your life." Oprah Winfrey


Plan
To have a purpose to be on purpose and to be on purpose you need a well thought out plan of action. "There is no hope of success for the person who does not have a central purpose, or definite goal at which to aim." Napoleon Hill


Opportunity
Purpose opens your eyes to the opportunities surrounding you. The emotional determination that develops from having a purpose can become unstoppable. Purpose is motivating and inspiring. "Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises." Demosthenes "


Success
You will succeed when your purpose is well defined. Purpose is the reason for doing what needs to be done day-to-day in order to reach your goals. Your purpose defines your goals and your goals become your road map to success. Success is based on the consistent quality of your actions. "The secret of success is constancy to purpose." Benjamin Disraeli "


Enthusiasm
Purpose can be so powerful that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, you smile and say, “I love my life.”

Marion Wright Edelman," the founder and President of the Children's Defense Fund, and the first African American woman admitted to the Mississippi state bar, spoke of purpose this way: "I'm doing what I think I was put on this earth to do. And I'm really grateful to have something that I'm passionate about and that I think is profoundly important."
