What Does PDA Stand For?

Just for fun I googled ‘what does PDA stand for’ and found a list of many choices. The number one definition is what all we all know as the personal digital assistant. I chose twelve to highlight out of list found. Take a look at some other definition found.

ONE
****** PDA Personal Digital Assistant (electronic handheld information device)
Noun 1. personal digital assistant - a lightweight consumer electronic device that looks like a hand-held computer but instead performs specific tasks; can serve as a diary or a personal database or a telephone or an alarm clock etc.
PDA, personal organizer, personal organizer, organizer, organizer
electronic device - a device that accomplishes its purpose electronically

TWO
****** PDA Personal Data Assistant
Very similar to the above definition but here it stands for personal digital assistant (PDA). It is a lightweight, hand-held computer device capable of performing a series of arithmetic or logical operations. Much different than a calculator, it is able to store computer programs to run various operations. It is designed for use as a personal organizer. A typical PDA has no keyboard, relying instead on special hardware and pen-based computer pen-based computer, computer that uses pattern-recognition software to enable it to accept handwriting as a form of input. A stylus, which may contain special electronic circuitry, is used to write on the computer display or on a separate tablet. Introduced in 1993, PDA’s achieved only modest acceptance during the remainder of the decade due to their relatively high price and limited applications, but improved software and lower prices subsequently led to more widespread use.

THREE
****** PDA Portable Digital Assistant
This is basically the same definition as PDA Personal Data Assistant.

FOUR
****** PDA Progressive Democrats of America
The Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) is a progressive political organization and grassroots political action committee operating inside the United States Democratic Party.

FIVE
*** PDA Personal Data Access
This is just another way to state that the PDA is a device that can access personal data.

SIX
*** PDA Personal Database Application
A PDA it is sometimes referred to as a database application even though it is actually a device where the applications reside.

SEVEN
****** PDA Public Display of Affection
This has become a ‘TEXTing’ word used on today’s PDA’s. It simply stands for a public display of affection. This can be used to describe any number of physical demonstration of affection for another person while in the view of others like holding hands, hugging or kissing in public.

EIGHT
****** PDA Pregnancy Discrimination Act
This definition is serious. Pregnancy discrimination occurs when expectant women are fired, not hired, or otherwise discriminated against due to their pregnancy or intention to become pregnant.

NINE
**** PDA Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture

TEN
**** PDA Preliminary Damage Assessment (American Red Cross; a.k.a. Windshield Survey)

ELEVEN
**** PDA Push-Down Automata (theory of computation)
In automata theory, a push-down automaton (PDA) is a finite automaton that can make use of a stack containing data.

TWELVE
*** PDA Pitch Detection Algorithm (digital recording)
A pitch detection algorithm (PDA) is an algorithm designed to estimate the pitch or fundamental frequency of a quasi periodic or virtually periodic signal, usually a digital recording of speech or a musical note or tone. This can be done in the time domain or the frequency domain.

PADS are used in various contexts (e.g. phonetics, music information retrieval, speech coding, musical performance systems) and so there may be different demands placed upon the algorithm. There is as yet no single ideal PDA, so a variety of algorithms exist, most falling broadly into the classes given below.
