Lauren Hutton - Get Her Look!
I find it helpful to study these awesome women to find out some of their secrets of staying 'with-it' in fashion.
Lauren Hutton is not only over forty, she is over sixty and looks great!
She wisely stays away from over done 'do's' and wears her hair in natural unfussy styles. She is careful to keep her hair color youthful. This becomes more of a chore for most of us as we age but is well worth the effort.
This is my favorite style! Click here to see it. It consists large waves creating undulating tendrils. If you aren't lucky enough to have this curl naturally, it can be achieved by with a soft permanent wave.
Large perm rods should be used and wrapped off-base.
Ms Hutton wears a warm medium blond hair color with light blonde highlights. If you are in the 'over forty' group, chances are, even if your hair hasn't started to gray, it has lost the warmth and vitality of more youthful hair. So all over hair color is your best bet.
This haircolor can be achieved by using a tint to create the medium blond shade. Use beige blonde or extra light brown and be careful to stay away from overly golden shades. When the base color is in place, tiny highlights are added in a light blonde shade. These can be added by using a weaving technique or a cap, but the highlights should be tiny strands of hair.
In the back, I would cut all the hair right at the hairline at the nape. On the sides, either cut all the hair right at the chin or angle the sides down to just below the chin. The longer sides are more flattering to someone who has a full face. Next, layer from the nape section up to about ear level, so that it has a stacked effect. The sides are also layerd from the bottom up to about the same level of just below the cheek bones. Be careful in layering the sides as they are often thinner than the back.
Lastly, texturize all around to take out any appearance of a line or ledge in the style. The effect you want is to have long tendrils laying close to your head with the fullness of the style being about four to five inches up from the bottom.
Apply a light gel to the entire style. I use LC Legacy Styling Glaze as it is the correct texture for this style. Put about a quarter-sized dollop in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together to distribute it. Then run your hands throughout your hair. Allow it to dry naturally or use a diffuser to dry your hair while you scrunch in the desired amount of wave. When the hair is almost dry, I often use some Styling Foam or mousse to scrunch into the ends for more body and definition.
Finish this style with some spray shine to give it a healthy gloss. Use just enough hairspray to keep your hair back out of your face and to calm any fly-aways.
To get this natural haircolor, beautiful haircut and soft permanent wave, it is always wisest to consult your haircare professional.
