Hello, and welcome back! The pretty fall weather here is so much nicer than the heat and humidity we had all summer, though it's a bit too chilly to take my reading outside right now. I'm getting ready to head to a writers' conference in a few days, though, so there won't be much reading going on here until after I'm back. Good thing I've been working my way through the October stack already.
This time out, I have Jill Sorenson's Tempted By His Target (Harlequin Romantic Suspense, purchased). Isabel Sanborn has been on the run for her life for the past two years, and U.S. marshal Brandon Knox has finally tracked her down in Mexico to haul her back to the States as a murder suspect. Isabel's life now is a lot different than it was before her friend Jaime Carranza's death. She was a spoiled party girl, but Jaime's father is a thug, and he'll move heaven and earth to find and punish her for his son's death, whether she's actually responsible or not. Brandon manages to be in the right place at the right time to save her from the elder Carranza's men, but then he and Isabel must go on the run to stay ahead of them again. Brandon's posing as a surfer on vacation, though Isabel isn't the most trusting of women, and she knows he's in danger just by being with her, no matter who he really is. Still, the man is hot as hell, and handy in a dangerous spot. But the bad guys are persistent, and, no matter how far Isabel and Brandon go, they're never more than a step ahead of the men who are bent on catching her, almost as much as Brandon wants to catch her. I liked this one. Isabel has issues, clearly, but she's done a lot of work on herself since her partying days, and readers will want her to get the chance to show them off, to prove to the world, or at least her family and Brandon, that she's not the same spoiled young woman she used to be. Brandon is yummy, honorable and, clearly, conflicted by the attraction he feels for the woman he's supposed to be arrest. I'm borrowing four of Cupid's five arrows for this one.
Until next time, happy reading!
